NextDNS.io
NextDNS is a service that allows you to protect your online browsing from unwanted content, malware, and privacy threats. It works by filtering and encrypting your DNS requests, which are the queries that your device makes to find the IP address of a website.

You can stream almost any movie or tv show (usually with subtitles) for free on anything that can run a web browser by visiting fmovies.to
If the ads are egregious then get an ad blocker. It's easy to do if you're on desktop. If you're on mobile then Firefox supports ad blocking, but Chrome doesn't. You can still block ads while using Chrome on Android though by installing Adguard.
If you want a higher quality and local copy of a movie or show then install a torrent client (I use Deluge) and find an active torrent for whatever you're looking to download. You can find torrents by going to 1337x.to, searching, choosing on of the top results, and then clicking the magnet link. If the magnet link doesn't automatically open the torrent in your torrent client then right click on it, copy the link, and past it into it (how you do this will probably vary slightly depending on what torrent client you're using).
You can also find movie torrents at yts.mx (which I like using just because it's a nice spot for browsing new releases when I'm not looking for anything in specific).
If you're worried about getting in trouble for torrenting (in canada ISPs are legally required to pass along any threatening copyright notices that they receive for your IP address, but you can and should just ignore these notices) then (instead of paying for a VPN) the website seedr.cc will torrent things for you and give them to you as regular downloads (that way your IP address isn't exposed to anyone other that seedr) (using it also means you won't need to install a torrent client). You don't get much space, but you can get more (without paying) by referring people (who also don't have to pay).
Running a random torrented windows executable can be sketchy sometimes, but you aren't going to get a virus from a pirated movie or song or a console video game rom.

ios users: did you know safari has extensions? id just switched from it to firefox thinking itd be more secure, but Now... im very 💪 with mobile security!!
just a heads up, you do need to go into settings > safari > exrensions and manually enable everything.
heres what i use:
adguard: pretty standard ad/tracker blocker. comes with a dns protector and vpn i havent tested, as I've outsourced mine.
hyperweb: another ad blocker, but also advances search results so your first hits are more credible or preferable. can also add custom scripts.
baking soda: replaces custom video players (aside from youtube) with a minimal html video tag.
vinegar: companion of baking soda that works solely on youtube!! it removes ads, allows picture-in-picture playing, and continues playing in the background.
pipifier: i use this in case the fizzy bundles (name of baling soda + vinegar) pip function goes down.
noir: defaults to dark mode on webpages.
honey: automatically checks for and runs coupon codes when online shopping so you always get the best deal.
happy & safe browsing everyone!! consider sending a kofi 🧿❣️

Hi, do you still have modded spotify rec for android? Mine stopped working and the new one I got gives me ads, doesn't show any song in my my playlists either.
if u were using xmanager then yh ik on the reddit n discord a lot of ppl are getting issues personally im not really getting many issues it's still usable for me but i suspect it myb has to do with the phone version bc my phone is pretty outdated. i saw someone say u can download the real spotify app n adguard dns on ur phone n it will block the ads but ofc u wont get any of the premium features n i hvnet tried it myself. spotube is a good alternative to spotify but i wld highly suggest making a second spotify acc copying over ur liked songs n other playlists to it n then logging in with tht one to spotube so u dont accidentally lose ur og account.
my tips for xmanager which i cant verify but it's just what seems to work for me. i frequently use spotify on the desktop application (modded as well) as well even if im listening on my phone i usually control from my laptop since im in front my laptop so if it's possible to log in on desktop or web (mine is not modded) i wld suggest doing tht from time to time n seeing if it helps. usually when it's giving trouble i play a song on web with browser vpn on n hving the xmanager open on my android at the same time n tht helps n then i close web n go back to android. downloading an older version of xmanager also works sometimes i was using 512 for a bit then i reupgraded. also i find sometimes if xmanager isnt working del it download real spotify app play a song for a bit then delete n reinstall xmanager sometimes tht does the trick. if u dont hv access to a laptop myb see if visitng spotiyf web player on ur phone using show desktop version will help.
unfortunately i hvent found any xmanager alternatives. um those apk sites some ppl have said u can find modded vers there but ive nvr tried any personally n they tend to be hit or miss so you'll hv to keep trying till u find one. n again when trying those apps i wld advise making a 2nd spotify acc n siging in with tht first n testing it.
lately ive been really trying to find alternatives but so far no luck. if u follow me u can keep a look out I'll def post if i find an alternative to xmanager if not u can always send another anon sometime to check back.

Favorite iOS Safari Extensions
On iOS (iPhones and iPads), Safari is the undisputed leader of the browsers, primarily because Apple puts very tight restrictions on other browser apps that makes it very difficult for them to offer the same features that Safari does.
Thankfully, you can install extensions to tweak Safari's behavior and customize websites, as long as your device is running iOS 15 or higher. Here are the Safari Extensions I use on a daily basis. Many are free (or at least have a free version), and all work on both iPhones and iPads.
For desktop computers and Android phones, you can also check out my recommendations for Firefox addons)
Last updated March 2025 (fixed broken Bypass Paywalls Clean links, added StopTheMadness)
Index:
AdGuard
Noir
uBlacklist
Userscripts
Sink It for Reddit
UnTrap
Vinegar
StopTheMadness
AdGuard
This addon is free if you just want to use the built in adblocking lists. For a small yearly fee, you can pay for "Pro" features, which allows you to add any custom adblocking list to the app, as well as providing DNS-based system-level adblocking that can block ads and trackers inside any app on your phone. Note that it gives you two options for the system-level blocking, local VPN and native DNS; using the VPN option can drain your battery faster than normal in my experience, so I recommend using the native DNS instead. Between AdGuard and the two YouTube-customizing extensions below, I haven’t seen an ad on YouTube in Safari in months.
Recommended custom filter lists (in addition to the built-in default lists):
Bypass Paywalls Clean (you’ll also need to install this userscript using the Userscripts Safari extension mentioned later in this list for maximum paywall blocking)
Huge AI Blocklist (if you don’t want AI art or AI images of nonexistent chimera animals cluttering up your search results)
Fuck FuckAdblock
Noir
Adds a dark mode to any website. It's using heuristics (fancy guessing) to figure out which website colors need to be changed so that it's darkened, so sometimes it can make mistakes. In that case, it has a built in way to send a bug report to the developer, who is pretty responsive in my experience; he updates the app around once a month in my experience. You can also turn off darkening for specific sites right from inside Safari.
uBlacklist
This addon hides search engine results from specific domains. Example: you can hide images results from AI generator sites, OR if you search for tech support advice and one of those stupid auto-generated sites filled with SEO garbage but no actual information keeps popping up, you can use this addon to hide everything from that website, right from the Google/DuckDuckGo/other search results.
Recommended filter subscriptions:
Huge AI Blocklist
Userscripts
Allows you to install userscripts and stylesheets that customize website behavior or appearance. The addon can check for updates of your userscripts and uses iCloud to synchronize them across devices too, which is really nice. The userscripts I use are:
Bypass Paywalls Clean (removes news website paywalls)
Amazon Sponsored Products Removal (self-explanatory)
Redirect Fandom to BreezeWiki (bypasses ad-filled fandom.com domains for indie wikis or an ad-free proxy site. The link documents 2 userscripts with slightly different behavior; use whichever you prefer).
Sink It for Reddit
I switched to only using Reddit in the browser after the whole API/third party apps fiasco. AdGuard blocks the ads in the web interface, but there were still a lot of annoyances because Reddit constantly bombarded you with prompts/popups trying to get you to switch to their app so they could track you and sell you ads. Sink It for Reddit removes all of those popups and lets you customize the behavior of the Reddit website too (tapping a post can open it in a new tab, back to top buttons for long posts, and video downloads, among other things). Constantly being updated too, which is nice to see.
UnTrap (USD $1.99)
This extension cleans up the YouTube interface in the browser. You can hide Shorts, Explore, Trending, and multiple flavors of Suggestions (videos, playlists, etc.). It also stops autoplaying videos, and has a content filter you can use to ensure you never see certain channels or even specific videos by ID, username, or keyword/regex. There are over 50 options you can tweak for the video playback page alone, so if you’re looking to remove an annoyance from YouTube in Safari on iOS, this is the addon for you. Note however that this is the first extension I’ve recommended that does NOT have a free version.
Vinegar and Baking Soda (USD $1.99)
This extension replaces YouTube’s custom video player with a standard HTML5 one. This means that YT videos will play back using the standard iOS video player interface, including all of the accompanying benefits: better interface, Picture in Picture/popout videos work, videos continue playing in the background even if you leave Safari, etc.. I was even able to start a YouTube video in Safari, lock my phone, and then continue playing the video and hear the audio over my car’s speakers via CarPlay. These are all normally locked features reserved for YouTube Premium subscribers. You can also set a default quality that it will use so YouTube won’t use “auto” and set you to 360p just because you’re using a phone.
StopTheMadness Pro (USD $14.99)
This app is really only for techies who use mobile websites a LOT; for me the very high price tag is worth it primarily to stop the following web annoyances:
Stops websites from disabling features like copy and paste, pinch to zoom, context menus, or text replacement/autofill
Adds a warning when you’re exceeding the length of a password field (too many poorly coded websites just chopping off the extra characters without telling me and then the password I recorded is wrong)
Stops autoplaying video (looking at you, YouTube and news websites)
I’ll be honest, this app has a LOT of features and the number of options can be overwhelming. It has dozens of things I did not mention, and some of them even overlap with other items in this list. For example, if you have this you probably don’t need Baking Soda or Vinegar because this app has options for enabling native Safari controls on all videos, setting default YouTube quality and subtitles, etc.

switched my ios dns profile (i.e. app-less systemwide adblock solution) from adguard to mullvad (russia to sweden, loosely, and mozilla trusts mullvad)
official instructions:
file: mullvad-encrypted-dns-https-base.mobileconfig
github directory containing file: https://github.com/mullvad/encrypted-dns-profiles/tree/main/base
direct link: https://github.com/mullvad/encrypted-dns-profiles/raw/main/base/mullvad-encrypted-dns-https-base.mobileconfig
(I clicked through in safari; dunno which of those actually work)

🤦‍♀️
Don't do that. At best you are just slowing things down, at worst some of these may be actively interfering with each other. AdGuard and uBlock Origin (uBO) is redundant, just use one. I use uBO, but AFAIK Adguard is ok too... Anyway, double classical browser adblockers is almost always a bad idea. (One classical and one DNS-based is fine)
Don't bother with the DDG extension for Firefox, just set DDG as your search engine. Delete Google and other unwanted search engines from the list if you want to make sure you don't accidentally select them. They claim to do other stuff, but it isn't doing anything you can't get with uBO and native FF features (set to Strict, etc). It might do stuff that you can't natively do on Chrome, but uh. Don't use Chrome.
The DDG app for Android mentioned above just links to the DDG Android browser. It does not make any claims to increase privacy or deal with ads in other apps. It is just a web browser. And it is just a Chrome/WebView wrapper as most non-FF browsers are. It isn't going to offer you anything you can't get with FF on Android and uBO.
Mullvad is a fine VPN (you can also use Mozilla, which is a branded version of Mullvad's infrastructure, and will help Mozilla survive), but there is very little to no reason to use a VPN for most day-to-day web browsing. Even more so now with encrypted DNS lookup options in the form of DoH (DNS over HTTPS) and DoT (DNS over TLS).
There could be some limited value to a VPN when on public WiFi (Starbucks etc), and a VPN is good to keep the MPAA off your back when torrenting. Or if you want to get around geo-blocks by selecting a VPN endpoint in another country.
Sponserblock is nice to skip the sponsor segments on YouTube, but do remember just regular uBlock Origin will block the YouTube-inserted ads, and Sponserblock has nothing to do with blocking trackers or the like.
For Android, start by using FF for Android (iOS situation is different), very many extensions work just fine on mobile now, including uBlock Origin. And then use mobile website (and PWAs, Progressive Web Apps) rather than Android apps where possible. "Apps" are always going to have more power to track you than websites (obviously there are "good" apps, especially many open source ones, that don't track you, but the possibilities are greater).
Since I use open source apps and websites wherever possible, and I use FF with uBlock Origin on Android, I haven't felt a need to use other ad/tracking blocking stuff on Android, but if you want to, the best bet is DNS based blocking with an open source app.
Some do it locally, like PersonalDNSfilter, DNS66, AdAway and Blokada 5, with a host file setup (either directly on rooted device, or with a fake VPN workaround for non-rooted). Others like AdGuard for Android, Blokada 6, RethinkDNS and NextDNS use external DNS servers on the internet and route your DNS requests through them. Some of those listed require subscriptions (though the clients are Open Source) or require varying amounts of manual setup. Also apparently some people are using the AdGuard DNS server without the app and therefore no subscription (presumably then needs more manual setup)? Don't know much about it. Can't recommend any one of these as I haven't used any of them, but plenty of discussion on Reddit etc.
Not sure what the Host File or alternate DNS situation is on iOS. And iOS browsers (ALL of them) are just skins over WebKit (the Safari engine), so not much they can do, and no extensions. The EU might force Apple to open that up though at some point...
i hate seeing people now making fun of those who care about privacy online. i've seen people saying things like "well they already have your data. what are companies going to do with it" and it's like, that's not the point. it's that companies /shouldn't/ be able to have my data and sell it. am i aware they probably already have my data? yes, absolutely. but i'm still going to try and keep them from monetizing it any further, why are we defending companies selling data they shouldn't have to begin with though?

This is an awesome guide and I want to add a few of my personal choices to it and provide more resources.
Note: I am, by no means, an expert.
Disclaimer: Some of the suggestions below may be missing features you are used to. It's free, roll with it. 😎
Level 1:
Another browser extension you should know about is LibRedirect. With it, you can pass links over to alternative sites to view the content. Be aware that the majority of the alternative sites are run by volunteers and enthusiasts; they don't always work 🙁 Small note: The name "Libre" gets used a lot by privacy-respecting and open source alternatives where previously they might have used "Free" or "Open".
Level 2:
Adobe Alternatives DuckDuckGo uses Bing for results, I also use StartPage for Google results. There is a desktop app for watching Youtube content called FreeTube that I recommend. It's a front-end for YouTube and Invidious servers (which re-stream YouTube content).
Level 3:
AdGuard is fine but if you are setting up a Raspberry Pi anyway, consider Pi-hole as an alternative option.
Level 4:
If, for some strange reason, you disregard the above guide and think that putting AdGuard on your phone is a reasonable alternative to the suggestions here, I would suggest that you DON'T. It may be different now but when I tried it the Android app it asked me to install a certificate. It does this so that it can modify websites you visit to block more ads. The downside is that it also allows them to read everything that would normally be encrypted. They may not be doing anything nefarious with it, but it's a risk I'm not taking. So, if a third-party you don't trust asks you to install a certificate, DON'T.
Level 5:
Awesome Piracy If you don't want to sign up for usenet and prefer to use torrents, get a good VPN and lock the torrent client down to only use the VPN connection. There are torrent tests you can do to see if your IP is exposed. In your VPN client, pick a country where copyright isn't a word! 😉
Level 6:
In addition to ReVanced, I want to also promote the app NewPipe which can be downloaded from the F-Droid store. F-Droid is an app store for your Android phone that hosts open-source apps and tells you every dirty detail of what each app does, privacy-wise. NewPipe is a YouTube alternative/Invidious front-end for Android.
Level 7:
Custom Windows playbooks are awesome and while I don't know Revi very well, but I will definitely check it out! Just browsing the docs I noticed that they default to the Brave browser. This is a personal opinion but I don't trust Brave as much as open-source alternatives. They have tried some interesting attempts at monetization in the past that make me suspect. Use the browser you are comfortable with instead and use a well-known, good adblock like uBlock Origin or uBlock Origin Lite. In addition to Firefox and its derivatives there is also Chromium and Ungoogled-Chromium if you want something familiar to Chrome.
Level 8:
Seriously, use Linux if you can (and if you do, make backups of your important files first!). Ignore Linux users that tell you to use Arch or an Arch derivative, it's not for beginners. When stuff breaks you just have to figure it out. Ubuntu, Mint, and Pop! are great for beginners but if you play games they may not be the most up-to-date for that. (Pop is especially behind at the moment 😭 but I'm hoping that changes soon) I personally use Fedora which is also great for beginners, is very up-to-date, and never gives me problems. However it does require one post-install setup step to replace the media codecs with "non-free" ones to make some media playback situations work. Other than that, it works so well that I actually find it boring compared to the usual amount of tinkering I'm used to! Fedora has two notable derivatives: Nobara, which is slightly tweaked for improved gaming performance and includes the media tweaks, and Bazzite which is similar to SteamOS but for general hardware (it's for gaming-specific setups like handhelds and living room gaming where you need a controller-focused interface).
Level ???:
You can host your own websites (webapps) made by others! I fell down this rabbit hole after Google killed Reader and I found self-hosted RSS alternatives. Later, I set up Docker and now I run dozens of useful webapps for all sorts of things! Try stuff out!
Hopefully this is helpful to someone. Feel free to ask me general questions about any of the above. If you have setup questions or technical issues, please contact the creators of the above projects first, as I can't cover everything everywhere. I try to, though! 😂
In case anyone is curious, I'm a software developer (mostly in web development) with a lot of general IT skills and troubleshooting experience and I spend a lot of my time tinkering with Linux, FreeBSD, self-hosted apps, open-source software, and supporting Windows systems that are all over the place. I have experience going back to MS-DOS, using Linux since the late 90's and have been running Linux as my primary system for over 5 years now (since Valve released Proton).
Thanks for reading!
genuinely wild to me when I go to someone's house and we watch TV or listen to music or something and there are ads. I haven't seen an ad in my home since 2005. what do you mean you haven't set up multiple layers of digital infrastructure to banish corporate messaging to oblivion before it manifests? listen, this is important. this is the 21st century version of carving sigils on the wall to deny entry to demons or wearing bells to ward off the Unseelie. come on give me your router admin password and I'll show you how to cast a protective spell of Get Thee Tae Fuck, Capital

1. Taajuuden valinta - pitkä kantama vai suurempi nopeus?
Pitkän kantaman WiFi-verkon rakentamisessa taajuuden valinta on ensiarvoisen tärkeää.
2. Edulliset laitteistovaihtoehdot
Vaikka suuryritykset käyttävät kalliita tukiasemia, voidaan toimiva verkko rakentaa huomattavasti edullisemmin. Seuraavat laitteet tarjoavat hyvän suorituskyvyn kohtuuhinnalla:
Ubiquiti NanoStation – suosittu kyläverkkoihin ja pitkän kantaman linkkeihin.
Mikrotik SXT SA5 – tehokas tukiasema laajoille alueille.
OpenWRT-reitittimet – vanhoista reitittimistä voi rakentaa uusia solmuja avoimen lähdekoodin ohjelmistoilla.
Näillä laitteilla voidaan rakentaa toimiva verkko jo muutamalla sadalla eurolla.
3. Verkoston rakenne ja toteutus
Pitkän kantaman WiFi-verkko voidaan toteuttaa eri tavoin.
Mesh-verkko: Jokainen laite toimii sekä vastaanottimena että lähettimenä, jolloin verkko laajenee automaattisesti uusien solmujen myötä.
Point-to-Multipoint (P2MP): Yksi vahva tukiasema jakaa yhteyden useille vastaanottimille.
Backhaul-linkit: Pitkän matkan yhteydet voidaan toteuttaa parilla suunnatuilla antenneilla, jolloin eri tukiasemat saadaan yhdistettyä toisiinsa.
4. Miten yhteys internetiin?
Vaihtoehtoja internetin lähteenä on useita:
Starlink – Satelliittiyhteys mahdollistaa internetin myös syrjäisille alueille.
4G/5G-reititin – Yhdistämällä useita mobiililiittymiä voidaan parantaa nopeutta ja vakautta.
Jaettu ADSL/valokuituliittymä – Useampi kiinteä yhteys voidaan yhdistää verkon ytimeksi.
PoE (Power over Ethernet) – Mahdollistaa datan ja virran siirron yhdellä kaapelilla.
6. Koko verkko alle 1000 eurolla!
Toimivan pitkän kantaman WiFi-verkon voi rakentaa ilman suurta budjettia. Esimerkki kustannuksista:
Ubiquiti NanoStation x4 – 280 €
Mikrotik SXT x2 – 200 €
Reitittimet (OpenWRT) x3 – 150 €
4G/5G-reititin – 150 €
Aurinkopaneelit x2 – 100 €
Tarvikkeet ja kaapelit – 100 €
7. Itse tehdyt WiFi-anturit - lisää kantamaa halvalla
Halutessaan voi rakentaa omia antenniratkaisuja parantamaan kantamaa:
Cantenna (peltipurkkiantenni) – Kantama jopa 5 km.
BiQuad-antenni – Pieni, mutta tehokas lisävaruste.
Yagi-antenni – Kantama yli 10 km.
Parabolinen antenni – Jopa 50 km kantama, kun näköyhteys on esteetön.
8. Yhteisö ja avoimen lähdekoodin ohjelmistot
Verkon hallintaan ja optimointiin voi käyttää ilmaisia ohjelmistoja:
LibreMesh – Mahdollistaa itseohjautuvan verkon rakentamisen.
Pi-hole + AdGuard – Suodattaa mainokset ja säästää kaistaa.
VPN-palvelut – Suojaa käyttäjiä ja mahdollistaa paikallisen intranetin.
9. Kuka ylläpitää verkkoa?
Toimivan verkon ylläpito voi olla yhteisön vastuulla:
Järjestä yhteisölle koulutuksia.
Perusta keskusteluryhmä ongelmien ratkaisemiseen.
Rahoita verkon ylläpito pienillä kuukausimaksuilla.
Yhteenveto

How to block pop up adverts on movie streaming sites?
Blocking pop-up ads on movie streaming sites can greatly enhance your viewing experience. Here are several effective methods to block pop-up ads while streaming movies:
1. Use Ad Blocker Extensions
Ad blocker extensions are one of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent pop-ups and other intrusive ads. Here’s how to set them up:
For Google Chrome:
Open Chrome and go to the Chrome Web Store.
Search for “AdBlock,” “Adblock Plus,” or “uBlock Origin.”
Click “Add to Chrome” next to the extension you choose.
Follow the prompts to install the extension.
For Mozilla Firefox:
Open Firefox and go to the Firefox Add-ons website.
Search for “AdBlock,” “Adblock Plus,” or “uBlock Origin.”
Click “Add to Firefox” next to the extension you want.
Follow the instructions to install the extension.
For Microsoft Edge:
Open Edge and go to the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store.
Search for “AdBlock,” “Adblock Plus,” or “uBlock Origin.”
Click “Get” next to the extension you choose.
Follow the prompts to install it.
2. Enable Pop-up Blockers in Your Browser
Most modern browsers have built-in pop-up blockers that can help prevent unwanted pop-ups.
Google Chrome:
Click on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
Go to “Settings” > “Privacy and security” > “Site settings.”
Under “Content,” select “Pop-ups and redirects.”
Ensure that the setting is set to “Blocked.”
Mozilla Firefox:
Click on the three-line menu in the upper-right corner.
Go to “Options” > “Privacy & Security.”
Under the “Permissions” section, check the box for “Block pop-up windows.”
Microsoft Edge:
Click on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
Go to “Settings” > “Cookies and site permissions.”
Scroll down and select “Pop-ups and redirects.”
Ensure that the setting is set to “Blocked.”
3. Use a VPN with Built-in Ad Blocking
Some Virtual Private Network (VPN) services offer ad-blocking features. By using a VPN with ad blocking, you can prevent ads from appearing on streaming sites.
Example VPNs with Ad Blockers: NordVPN, CyberGhost, Surfshark.
4. Adjust Site Permissions
You can adjust permissions for specific sites to block ads directly from the browser.
Google Chrome:
Go to the site where you want to block ads.
Click on the padlock icon next to the URL.
Select “Site settings.”
Change the settings for “Pop-ups and redirects” to “Block.”
5. Use a Dedicated Ad Blocker App
There are also dedicated ad-blocker applications available that can block ads across multiple browsers and applications on your device.
Examples: AdGuard, AdBlocker Ultimate.
6. Update Your Browser and Extensions Regularly
Keeping your browser and ad blocker extensions updated ensures you have the latest protection against new types of ads and pop-ups.
Conclusion
By using a combination of ad blocker extensions, browser settings, VPNs with ad-blocking features, and site-specific permissions, you can significantly reduce or eliminate pop-up ads while streaming movies. This will help you enjoy a smoother, more enjoyable streaming experience on platforms like MoviesJoy.Studio and the MoviesJoy App.
